Cavo Builders’ Supplies – Over 90 years of service to the community

Cavo Builders’ Supplies is a family-owned, third-generation business founded in the early 1920s by Joseph Bocchino, the current owner’s grandfather, and as such, is Utica’s longest-operating building supply yard. We began as a “masonry only” yard with concrete block being made in the owner’s backyard using simple molds and delivered by horse and cart. As business progressed, we moved to the current location as a full-line masonry yard. Sons-in-law Alfonso “Funzie” Cavo and Santo Cavo continued to develop the business and began to attract plasterers and other commercial contractors with their expanded product assortments of plaster, steel studs, insulation, acoustical ceilings, and more.

In 1985, Al Cavo Jr. became involved with the business and further expanded product offerings with lumber, roofing, hardware, and convenience assortments of plumbing, electrical and paint. Three years later, Al Cavo became president and remains today as current owner of Cavo Builders’ Supplies, Inc.

The purchase of sister company Ilion Lumber in 1999 added both depth and breadth to our offerings, especially in the lumber and millwork areas. As two separate companies, locally-owned and operated by one family, we are able to deal with customers on a personal level and provide convenient and individual attention to everyone that walks through the door.
